# Default country in MXT 

## How to update your default country in MXT for sending SMS

**1.** Click on the ***'cog'*** icon on the top right-hand corner of MXT. Underneath ***'Settings’***, select ***‘SMS Settings’***.

**2.** Under the heading ***‘SMS and MMS’***, you will see the ***‘Default Country’*** heading.

Click on the box to open the drop-down box of country options and select the country you send to the most.

***Note:*** This is used to replace the prefix of mobile numbers with the prefix of the selected country (i.e., the country you send to the most).

**3.** Click ***‘Update Settings’*** to confirm these changes.

***Note:*** If you send internationally, it is best practice to [include the relevant country code](https://hs.smsglobal.com/what-format-do-my-mobile-numbers-need-to-be-in-to-send-an-sms-smsglobal-help-center?hsLang=en-au) with all SMS.
