What can I use as my Sender ID ‘From Address’ for Two-Way Communication?

Recipients can reply to your SMS as long as there is a valid number in the sender ID of your SMS and if you have enabled Two-Way Messaging. SMSGlobal offer different options to enable 2 way messaging, which will allow you to receive a reply back from a recipient.

Note: You can NOT receive replies back from recipients if your Sender ID is a Custom Word (Alphanumeric Sender ID).

The features below may vary between countries.

The available Sender ID options are outlined below, with the difference between each of them.


Shared Numbers

Shared numbers are mobile numbers that every customer account can send from. Messages will appear to have been sent from a standard mobile number (e.g. in Australia, +61 447 122 256).

  • 2-Way Communication (able to receive replies back from the recipient):

    Yes, only for 48 hours after the message is sent to the recipient.

  • Unique to your business and brand:

    No, this is a shared pool of numbers used by other companies also.

  • Cost:

    No Cost

  • How to set up:

    Simply select ‘Use shared numbers’ under the ‘From’ heading when sending a message.


Custom Word

(Alphanumeric Sender ID) A custom word is a word, or piece of text such as a personal or business name, up to 11 characters long that can be set as a Sender ID- ‘From address’.

  • 2-Way Communication (able to receive replies back from the recipient):

    No, this is a word with no number associated with it. Two-way communication is not supported.

  • Unique to your business and brand:

    Yes

  • Cost:

    No Cost

  • How to set up:

    Simply select ‘A custom word’ under the ‘From’ heading when sending a message. Then enter a custom word within 11 characters.


Verified Number (Australia only)

A verified mobile number can be any personal mobile number that has been verified by SMSGlobal, such as the one used to set up your account.

  • 2-Way Communication (able to receive replies back from the recipient):

    Yes - However all replies go directly back to this physical number, not SMSGlobal.

  • Unique to your business and brand:

    Yes

  • Cost:

    No Cost

  • How to set up:

    If you would like to use the mobile number associated with your account, please select ‘verified number’ when sending a message.


Virtual Number

A Virtual Number is a unique number dedicated to your business and brand, and can be used for two-way communication.

  • 2-Way Communication (able to receive replies back from the recipient):

    Yes

  • Unique to your business and brand:

    Yes
